Cross County is Back!

Welcome back, Betz students and families!  I am excited to begin our 5th Cross Country season!  Cross country will start after school Monday, September 13.  Practices will be held Mondays and Wednesdays (9/13-10/6) from 2:20-3:20.  Our big Betz Cross Country Meet will be held Wednesday, October 6 beginning at 2:50 pm to showcase the efforts of our athletes and serve as a conclusion to our season, barring any new COVID restrictions.  It is definitely the highlight of the season!

Practices will always start in the gym.  After a warm up, we will finish practice outside in the front playground.  All participating students should be prepared for practice with appropriate apparel (shorts and t-shirt, long pants, jacket, etc.) and PE shoes.  In the event of inclement weather/poor air quality, we will have to cancel practice.  There is not enough space indoors to hold practice while following COVID protocol.

Prior to participation, every student must complete the activity packet on Skyward under online forms.  In addition, the cross-country permission form (attached) must be completed and returned to the office.  All forms must be completed and the permission form returned to the school no later than Wednesday, September 8th to ensure student participation.

Students will be cleared to participate AFTER all forms are returned and medical forms are reviewed and cleared by the health room staff.  A note from us will be sent to each student to confirm they are cleared to participate.

There are many different volunteering opportunities for enthusiastic and responsible people both at practice and at the Cross Country Meet.  All volunteers must return a completed Volunteer Clearance Application, which may be found with the other forms online or in the front office, and be cleared through the Washington State Patrol prior to serving as a volunteer.  This process may take at least two weeks, so please complete and return the form as soon as possible if you want to volunteer.

Yes, Cross Country is a running sport, so students should expect to run.  However, we will include fun games, activities, and tips on running.  The main objective is to provide a fun environment where kids learn to enjoy being active regardless of current running ability.

Thanks for your support of Betz Cross Country.  If you have any questions, please contact us at [email protected]  We look forward to seeing you for another great season!

Sincerely,
